E-books

The content of an e-book is exactly the same as the printed version - except it is available electronically via the web. This means that you can access it 24:7 from any computer with an Internet connection.

Finding e-books

You may come across e-books by searching the Library Catalogue in the usual way. If a book is available electronically the words [Electronic resource] will appear beside the entry in the catalogue.

If you want to search for only e-books. Go to the Advanced search tab of the Library Catalogue and under the heading Material type select e-book. Then enter your search terms in the usual way.

E-book collections

You can also search for e-books by supplier. Go to the Digital Library page of the Library Catalogue and under the heading Full text ebook collections select a collection from the list. The following collections contain useful materials for students on Applied Social Studies courses:

• VLEboooks and Ebook Central - these are the University's main suppliers of ebooks & contains many of the key texts on your reading lists.
• EBSCO Ebook Collection - the University's secondary supplier of e-books containing a large number of titles relevant to Applied Social Science courses.
• Credo Reference - a collection of reference books: dictionaries, encyclopaedias, thesauri, biographical dictionaries and books of quotations. It also contains a collection of specialist social science related reference materials.
• Oxford Reference Online - another collection of reference books all produced by Oxford University Press. It also contains a collection of political and social science related reference materials.
