Databases and Electronic Resources

Use Ebscohost to find useful peer-reviewed journal articles on different aspects of poverty and social exclusion. Be sure to tick the box for full text. You can search several Ebscohost databases simultaneously. Particularly useful for this module will be:

  • British Nursing Index
  • E-journals
  • PsycINFO
  • SocINDEX

A free database maintained by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE). It covers all aspects of social work and social welfare – including poverty and social exclusion and allows you to limit your results to full text.

    • Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) - the leading charity campaigning to end child poverty in the UK and for a better deal for low-income families and children. The site contains information about their work, statistics and some freely downloadable resources.
    • Joseph Rowntree Foundation - an endowed charity which funds a large, UK wide research and development programme. The site includes many freely available full-text publications covering poverty and social exclusion.
    • Oxfam: Poverty in the UK Section - information about Oxfam's work on tackling poverty in the UK and links to resources.
    • The Poverty Site - site which monitors what is happening with poverty and social exclusion in the UK - funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
