• Ebscohost Research Databases

  Search several Ebscohost databases simultaneously to find what you need. Be sure to tick the box for “full text” to find only articles which are available in full text. The following Ebscohost databases are recommended:

• NewsBank Newspapers UK

  Search all the national (and many of the local) UK and Ireland newspapers simultaneously for the last ten years to find useful articles.

Useful Websites

• The Home Office - the lead Government department responsible for immigration, passports, drugs policy, crime, counter-terrorism and the police. The website contains a hugh amount of free to download publications on all aspects of crime, punishment and justice.

• Joseph Rowntree Foundation - an endowed charity which sponsors research on all aspects of poverty and social problems throughout the UK – most of which are free to download from its website.

• NACRO - a charity which works with disadvantaged people (offenders, and those at risk of offending) to help them find positive alternatives to crime and reach their full potential. Their website contains numerous free to download publications, reports and statistics.

• The Howard League for Penal Reform - an independent charity working for penal reform and a safer society – the website contains details of a large number of research publications, some of which are free to download.

• Justice - an independent human rights organisation with a large number of free to download publications.

• World Organisation Against Torture - the main coalition of international non-governmental organisations fighting against torture, summary executions and all other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

• Innocent - organisation fighting miscarriages of justice.

• Miscarriages of Justice Organisation - Scottish miscarriages of justice organisation.

• United Against Injustice - organisation dedicated to raising public awareness of miscarriages of justice.

• Amnesty International - International charity which campaigns for human rights.
