Subject Guides

Finding information today is relatively simple - just type in a few keywords in a search engine and see what comes back. But then how do you decide which results are reliable and of sufficient academic quality to use in your assignments?

These subject guides identify the recommended resources in the library collections and on the web to use in your assignments, seminar tasks or presentations. Compiled by your Academic Liaison Librarian, the guides are a comprehensive overview of of the best resources for your subject area, whether you want to find:

  • journal articles both full text and in print
  • dictionaries and encyclopaedias collections to check terms and definitions that you may come across in your reading and during lectures
  • databases to find journal citations
  • electronic books
  • newspaper articles
  • relevant websites to find quality information
  • statistics
  • images

Remember, a comprehensive literature search of the available resources will allow you to read widely around the subject, absorb a range of viewpoints and draw your own conclusions on a topic based upon what you've read. Just the kind of behaviour your lecturers are looking for!

So, impress your lecturers and check out the wide range of resources available to you.
