EPQ support
The EPQ was launched in 2008 and it is designed to sit alongside the A level syllabus and allows students to undertake research in their area of interest. This could take the form of:
- a research based written report (c5,000 words)
- production (e.g. charity event, fashion show or sports event etc.)*
- an artefact (e.g. piece of art, a computer game or performance etc.)*
*Must include a written report
On completion all student have to give a short presentation about his or her project.
The qualification was designed to enable students to develop essential research skills required for University study or for use in future careers. It can also boost UCAS points.
- AQA (Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) highlight the skills students will develop
- manage – identify, design, plan, and complete a project (or task within a group project), applying organisational skills and strategies to meet their stated objectives
- use resources/research – obtain and select information from a range of sources, analyse data, apply it relevantly, and demonstrate understanding of any appropriate connections and complexities of their topic
- develop and realise – use a range of skills, including using new technologies, to solve problems, to take decisions critically, creatively and flexibly, and to achieve their aims
- review – evaluate the outcome, including their learning and performance.
These mirror Learning Outcome statements used in University Unit and Course information forms and reflect SCONUL Seven Pillar statements on information literacy.

- sessions will not run in September, October and May
- give at least 6 weeks notice when requesting a session
