Visitor groups
We welcome visitors to the University of Bedfordshire Libraries.
Visitors can use both the Luton and Bedford campus libraries only.
Access and borrowing privileges depend on membership or account type.
Visitors are welcome to use the University of Bedfordshire library in line with the agreed membership type.
Below is a summary of important terms and conditions:
- Library access only (no other University buildings). Entering areas outside your permitted access may result in being asked to leave campus and could affect your membership including suspension.
- Entry is with your library visitor ID card
- You can connect your own device (laptop loan or phone) to Eduroam or guest wifi
- Library visitors can’t use:
- Group study rooms
- PCs or Macs
- Printing, scanning, or photocopying

- All visitor access requires a completed application form.
- A passport‑style photo is required to create your ID card.
- Access will begin once your application has been approved and your card issued.
- You must use your University of Bedfordshire Visitor Library ID card to enter Luton and Bedford campus libraries.
- We can’t accept emails or other forms of ID for entry.
- Your library card must be ready and activated before you visit.
- If you’re a SCONUL student, you can access Eduroam (campus wifi - if provided by your home institution).
- All other approved visitors can use the Guest Wi‑Fi.
- Only a number of digital resources are available to visitors with on‑campus access.
Visitor membership does not include:
- group study room access
- student PCs or Macs
- printing, scanning, or photocopying facilities
- access to digital resources from home
- access to other University buildings or services
- Membership fees and charges may change at the University’s discretion.
- If your membership allows borrowing, late return fines apply.
- Lost or damaged cards cost £13 to replace, and a new photo will be required.
- Membership fees are non‑refundable.
- Alumni must be in good standing with the University to qualify for any fee reduction.
- All visitors must follow the Library Customer Behaviour and Standards
- Library collections are primarily for university students and staff, and availability of items cannot be guaranteed.
- The University reserves the right to refuse or cancel visitor access where necessary.
The University library is an adult learning environment, and visitors are expected to use the space independently and responsibly.
As this is a university setting, the library is unable to take on the role or responsibilities of parents or legal guardians for visitors under the age of 18. Year 12 and 13 pupils are therefore treated in the same way as other library visitors.
All visitors are expected to follow the Library Customer Behaviour and Standards to help ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive study environment for everyone.
