Books
Our stock covers a wide range of health topics, as well as related subjects such as sociology, psychology, education and management. The stock is spread between the six Learning Resource Centres within the University. All our books, journals and audio-visual materials are listed on our searchable catalogue.
How to find books
Search the catalogue by Title or Author, taking care to avoid typing errors. Each book and video has a classmark indicating where it can be found on the shelves.
The health site at Aylesbury uses a special system (Wessex) for health libraries. For example, the book "Study skills in health care" is kept at WY40 TAY. 'WY' is the nursing section. '40' contains texts on education.
The libraries at Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes organise their books in the same system used in local public libraries, Dewey. So, at those sites you would find the same book at 610.73, in the nursing education section.
If the book is not available at your nearest site or on loan, click on the Reserve icon to place a reservation.
How to find electronic books
To check if there is an online edition of a textbook, search the catalogue in the usual way (by title or author). If it is available online, onscreen links will appear. Electronic books can be read using any Internet-connected computer. Alternatively, you can also browse the various electronic book collections by using the menu on the Digital Library page.
