I became the manager of the Professional and Academic Development Team in August 2011. Prior to this I worked for almost 5 years as a Learning Support Tutor at the University of Bedfordshire. Whilst working at the University I also completed my PhD.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

I work Monday to Friday and am based in the Luton Library.

I work in the Luton Library on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I visit London Bridge on Tuesdays and work in Bedford Library on Thursdays.


Anna Judd-Yelland

After training as a nurse, I studied English as a mature student at the University of North London. I have twenty years experience of teaching and supporting students in Further Education. My subject specialist areas are Adult Literacy, English, study skills, teaching English as a foreign language and teacher training at level 4 and level 5. I have recently moved to the University of Bedfordshire to take up the post of Professional and Academic Tutor. 

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

I work Monday to Friday and am based at the Luton Library but I will also be available at the Aylesbury pop up study hub once a fortnight on a Tuesday. Please refer to the What's On calendar for dates. 


Adrian Randall

I am a graduate of Durham University and have worked in the universities of Newcastle, Swansea and Aarhus in Denmark before joining the staff at Bedford as Head of European Studies. I have worked in Professional and Academic Development since 2002.

I work on Monday and Friday mornings (term time only) and am based at the Library (Bedford Campus).


Jennie Dettmer

My teaching career began when I taught EFL in Spain. On returning to the UK, I supported students with their ESOL, literacy and numeracy needs within the additional support department of various colleges. I joined the PAD department after gaining my diploma in Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties and work as the specialist tutor in this area.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

I am based in the Luton Library (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and Bedford Library (Tuesday).


Hylton Dobson

My background is over thirty years in the construction industry as a qualified Civil Engineer and Company Director. I have taught maths since 2000. I started working in Professional and Academic Development in 2006 as a Maths Tutor. In the late 80s, I was accepted as a member of MENSA.  

I work on Monday (usually Bedford) and Thursday (usually Luton) across university campuses.


Anthea Cowen

I have been supporting students at the Luton Campus Library since 2012, firstly in Readers Services, and then as as an Academic Skills Trainer, Computer Skills Tutor and since 2016, as a Maths, Numeracy and Statistics Tutor.

My previous careers spanned public and private sectors as a statistician and IT project analyst & manager, before joining small businesses and then moving into education. I am TESOL qualified, have a degree in maths, statistics and linguistics and have an MBA in Management. 

I  work in PAD on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and am based at the Luton Library. During term-time I also work on Thursdays.


Shipa Begum

I graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a first in English Language Studies with Teaching English as a Foreign Language in 2011. I have worked in various roles supporting students whilst pursuing my degree, including as a Peer Adviser and Administrator in Professional and Academic Development.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

I work Wednesday to Friday and am based at the Luton Library.


Imelda Sari

I hold a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Indonesia and a master's degree in Applied Linguistics (with TEFL) from the University of Bedfordshire.

I have worked as a teacher in English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes at Perbanas Institute (Indonesia). My career has also included stints as a card advisor at Citibank and a translator of novels from English into Bahasa Indonesia. Before joining the PAD team I was a tutor/administrator at the language centre the UoB, where I have taught on the Communication Skills and pre-sessional English programmes. My main research interests are in the areas of teachers’ professional development, translanguaging, second language communication strategies and English for academic purposes.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

I am based in the Luton Library (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) and Bedford Library (Wednesdays).
