Hi, I'm Jo and I've been working in academic libraries for nearly 20 years. Not only am I a Chartered Librarian but I'm also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I believe strongly that academic libraries should be accessible, welcoming and relevant to the students, researchers and staff who use them.

I am interested in researching how libraries can provide positive learning environments both physically and virtually and how we can support the learning and research experience.

My role here at the University is to ensure that Learning Resources provides the resources and services you need as a student, researcher or member of staff.

I do this primarily by managing the team of Academic Liaison Librarians in their work supporting the courses and departments within the university. Each of the Academic Liaison Librarians or ALLs as they are affectionately known as, have written a profile introducing themselves. You can find out who your ALL is here.

In addition, I also act as Research Librarian for postgraduate students and research staff, offering advice and guidance on relevant resources and how to access material we don't hold in stock. More information on support for research can be found in the Resources for Researchers guide.

I can also offer advice to academic staff on how best we can support your teaching activity and enhance the student learning experience by offering advice on how you can:

  • embed information literacy into your teaching and assessments
  • create digital reading lists of our ebooks
  • provide full text articles and book chapters for your students on BREO
  • develop formal and informal information literacy learning opportunities for your students

You can find more information on support for teaching on the University staff pages: in.beds.ac.uk

If you have any questions about what I do, what the ALLs do or how we can help you get the best out of our services and resources then do please contact me.
