Hello, my name is Bill and I support the subject areas of Performing Arts, English, Sports Science and Physical Activity. Since obtaining an MSc in information studies in 2004 I became a chartered librarian in March 2012 and completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice in July 2012. Since then I have also undertaken further studies in Maths and Science at the Open University, in the process achieving a Certificate in Natural Sciences with distinction. This has given me recent experience of university study from the learners' point of view.

I see many students in inductions, seminars and lectures throughout the year. I also see students on a one to one basis to consider the best way of searching, managing and evaluating information for assignments and dissertations.

My role involves buying and managing books and journals and teaching people how to get the most out of databases and search engines. My job also involves,

  • teaching information skills sessions and developing online opportunities for students to improve their information handling
  • providing full text articles and book chapters for inclusion on BREO
  • embedding information skills into courses
  • creating digital reading lists of ebooks
  • creating publications and Subject Guides to help people access information.

I enjoy helping people find and engage with information which they are then able to turn into insight, knowledge, skills and careers.

Feel free to contact me if you have any queries about assignments and dissertations or would simply like to know more about what the library can do for you.
