Laptops for Loan: Luton and Bedford

Luton and Bedford Campus libraries have laptops available for students to borrow for one week while studying in the library or at home.

 


  • Library laptops can be loaned for one week. This means that if you borrow a laptop on a Monday, it should be returned by 10pm, the following Monday.
  • Luton campus library has a selection of laptops for overnight loan on the mezzanine floor. These laptops should be returned by 10pm the following day.
  • Loans are free
  • One laptop per student
  • No reservations
  • No renewals
  • If the laptop is overdue for more than 7 days, the user will be invoiced for the full replacement cost of £700.The breakdown of the cost is £628 including VAT and an admin charge of £71.20. The user’s library account will be frozen.
  • Work should be saved in the normal way to your iCloud, OneDrive or USBstick. When the laptop is restarted or turned off all files on the hard drive will be deleted and cannot be recovered. Please do not allow your laptop to lose power. All files on the laptop's hard drive will be deleted once it is returned and cannot be recovered.
  • Any laptops found unattended will be removed by staff and the borrower will fall into our 3 strikes sanctions

  • Luton and Bedford: ground floor, near entry barriers
  • Luton: mezzanine floor, near newspapers
  • Luton: first floor, by Returns unit

  • Swipe your University ID and enter your University password
  • The display will inform you which laptop to borrow
  • Open the dispenser door
  • Unplug the laptop and remove it (and power cable), close the dispenser’s door
  • The laptop will be automatically issued to your library account

  • Return the laptop to the same floor that you borrowed it from
  • Swipe your University ID and enter your University password
  • The dispenser door will automatically open
  • Connect the charging cable (with yellow sticker), close the dispenser door
  • If the door won’t close or an alarm sounds please ask a member of staff for help, after 10pm please ask security

As early as possible, you must report a lost or stolen University laptop to the Police and the University.

  1. For a lost device: please go to the Lost Property Reporting Service and follow the instructions to report the missing item.
  2. To report a stolen device, please visit the nearest Police station or call 101 so you can be given a crime reference number.
  3. Contact library.technical@beds.ac.uk or call 01582 743 488 to report the loss or theft to the University.
