Video Transcript:

Searching our academic databases is slightly different to searching Google. Often you will be faced with three search boxes instead of one.

Although this can appear confusing at first it can actually help you to narrow down your search to precisely the material you require.

Consider Academic Search Elite, a general database of journal articles.

Imagine you are a media student doing an assignment on Quentin Tarantino. Choose to find articles with Tarantino in the title like so.

If you want full-text articles, tick the box.

We now have 49 results to consider, and we are ready to start thinking about which might be useful.

You may have been advised to concentrate on academic articles. If this is the case you can limit the results by selecting the box Peer Reviewed Journal articles.
