Self Service

Borrowing, renewing and returning library items is a self service activity at all sites of the University.  At Luton and Bedford collection of inter campus Reservations (Holds)  is also a self service activity (please remember to issue the items you collect). Luton Reservations are kept on Level 1 of the LRC and Bedford Reservations are on the ground floor of the library. Document Supply items, inter campus photocopies, DVDs, videos, CDs and general queries will be dealt with by staff at the all the Customer Service desks.

You will need:

  • your ID card
  • your library password

At Luton Self Issue machines are on level 1 and level 0. The Self Return machine is on level 0 near the security barriers. The Fines machine is on level 1.

At Bedford Self Issue machines are on level 0. The Self Return machine may be accessed from the outside of the library building. Remember to drop your books off when you arrive on Campus - this will save you carrying them around with you to lectures.

At Butterfield Self Issue machines are opposite the Customer Service desk the Self Returns machine is just inside the LRC doors.

At Oxford House Self Issue machines are opposite the Customer Service desk and Returns machine is just inside the LRC doors.

At Putteridge Bury the Self Service Issue, Returns and Fines Machine is just inside the LRC.

Self service facilities are available on the library catalogue.

 You cannot borrow or renew if you have fines, overdue items or blocks on your account. You cannot renew items if they have been requested by another person. Overnight loans cannot be renewed or reserved.
