How to cite visual sources
Accessing visual sources has been transformed by the availability of images online. Visual sources can be referenced either as the original forms or as online versions, with URLs and the date accessed included.
There are many types of visual resources and the specifics of referencing them vary. In each case the principle is to provide the following information:
- Artist/producer
- Date
- Title of work (in italics)
- Type of material, e.g. photograph, sculpture etc. (in square brackets)
- Publication details (if taken from a published work) OR details of the gallery housing the work (if viewed in the original) OR URL and the date accessed (if viewed online)
