Training & help

The range of resources and campus services can be bewildering so if you are in need of help, come to your nearest LRC and we will be delighted to help you.

If you are unsure how to make use of the Digital Library, contact the health librarians to find out about our monthly lunchtime training sessions or how to make an appoinment for individual help.

Also, have a look on BREO.  The librarians will add helpsheets and advice there, and Midwifery students have their own 'Organization' with many useful resources (please contact one of the librarians if you would like to be enrolled on this).

If you are worried that your library account is not working, ring the Enquiry Desk on 01582 743488.

For advice on referencing your work, check your course handbook or look at the referencing guidelines; there are links from each BREO unit and in your online information skills unit.

The Study Skills team at PAD can also help you if you're worried about e.g. your essay-writing skills; call or email them for an appointment.

If you're worried about your IT skills, you can also contact the IT team for an appointment or to find out more about their programme of classes.

Online tutorials

The Invisible Library has been developed to help you develop your information literacy skills. The objective of this learning package is to enable you to become a competent and confident user of not only our library products and services, but information in general. Ideally you should do the tutorials in order, building on your skills and knowledge as you complete each one. However, the package has been designed so that you can dip in and out of each unit as required.

A free, "teach yourself" tutorial created for nurses, midwives and health visitors lets you practise your Internet  skills. It is available from the Virtual Training Suite.

National Library for Health

Alternatively, if you are having difficulties with the (NHS) National Library for Health's core collection, contact the nearest Trust Library to find out what training is available locally.  (All NHS employees or students on placement are entitled to NHS Athens Accounts.) You might also want to try these tutorials.
