Using RefWorks with NHS databases

If you have an NHS Athens account you can export to RefWorks from the NHS databases.

  1. Log into your NHS Athens account and carry out a search of the NHS databases
  2. Select the results you want to export by ticking in the box next to each search result
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page - you will see a table
  4. In the Output Format box, choose RIS
  5. In the Display Format box, choose Short
  6. Then click Export Results
  7. You will be prompted to save a file in .ris format. Save this file somewhere where you can find it again easily.
  8. Go to RefWorks and log in with your RefWorks account details.
  9. Go to References > Import
  10. For Import Filter/Data Source choose RIS Format
  11. For Database choose NHS - National Library for Health
  12. In the ‘Import Data from the following Text File’ section click ‘Browse’ and navigate to the .ris file you saved earlier.
  13. Now click Import.
